Classes
- regular opportunities for making music/dance requests with attendance milestones- BYO drinks & snacks, wear comfy shoes (no boots - soft soles only)
1. newcomers achieve best results by 6 weeks consecutive attendance, so discount rates apply for a set course
2. being away for 1 week sets most back about 1.5 weeks during early stages
3. regular non-attendance often nullifies any progress in between
4. an extra Starter course can assist with the transition between newcomer and weekly classes + instill the necessary foundation so that occasional non-attendance thereafter does not result in setbacks
5. class done lists let you see what you have missed while away or already done before started
6. casual classes are being introduced from Term 2 2025 as an alternative to weekly attendance

Casual Sessions
Notes
Aims to:
1. Cater for those that can't commit to weekly attendance due to work or life commitments.
2. Provide additional opportunities to help cement dances done in weekly classes.
3. Assist those that have been away or wish to ready themselves to commence weekly classes.
4. Create respect for others people's dance journeys and alternative class dances offered.
All dance lists for a particular class on a given date are thus created ad hoc based on music preferences and needs of those attending.
This necessitates significant extra recording to help facilitate creation of those lists each time.
Pricing reflects:
1. Term Fees built in
2. Extra recording required
3. Varying attendance levels expected
These are being run on a trial basis for May to July, only continuing if there is sufficient average interest

- First hour each session for newcomers, remainder beginners

Short Courses
These are like classes, but only run for 6 weeks each term
- pricing varies per course...
1. Newcomer Courses
Newcomer courses are an introduction to weekly classes, with the dances currently drawn from existing programs. They are designed to build up terminology and step knowledge before joining other more experienced dancers in their classes. Class times increase from 1 hour to 1.5 hours as your mental and physical stamina improves.
For us these 6 week courses will become a prerequisite to normal classes from 2025. Exceptions may be granted if club social attendance assessment proves favorable. It takes some 6-8 weeks to become proficient, so commitment to continued attendance is shown via payment in advance on booking. As an added incentive a discount of about $20 is offered (compared to normal weekly fees) to $50 standard or $40 discounted.
2024 Term 4
- went ahead only just getting sufficient numbers
- run October 16 to November 20, Wednesday nights 6:30-7:30/8:00pm
2025, noting we still dance on public holidays
- there was insufficient interest initially to run separate classes in Term 1 starting on 17 Feb 2025. The courses were incorporated into weekly classes instead with adjustments to help facilitate.
- from Term 2, the newcomer course will be followed by a starter course, both within the casual class instead at a slightly higher fee...
- T2 2025 commences the week starting 28 April- T3 2025 commences 1 September
- Newcomer hour of each casual class, moving into half an hour of the Beginner time by 4th week of the course
- $90 full price or $80 discounted is the equivalent of tier 2 pricing one class the entire course, so saving $30 + no deposit needed.

2. Starter Courses
Introduced from 2025 to bridge between Newcomer Courses and Weekly Classes. Adds the number of dances known prior ;-)
In T1 2025, it was simply 3 or 4 weeks of continuing the extra early half hour in Weekly Classes
T2 2025 onwards is 6 week course run in the Casual Sessions.
- T2 = 11 & 12 June start
- T3 = 15 & 16 Oct start
- $100 full price or $90 discounted provides one week free on top of Tier 2 casual rates for the whole session + no deposit needed
3. Experienced Dancer Courses
Aims to increase known dances for upcoming travel events + adding gradually to the number of vintage ones covered
Again only runs for 6 weeks per school term
Now being run on Monday nights so only have 2 nights a week of dancing...
Pricing varies per course according to numbers attending how many courses & hall hire fees involved.
- T4 2024 was run in conjunction with the separate Newcomer Course, so cost was only $60
- T1 2025 separate night with 2*2 & 1*1 attending, so cost was $75 & $130 respectively with some loss involved, running from 17 Feb to 27 Mar
- continuing thereafter as a weekly class but at casual rates in order to just cover decreased hall hire costs. Currently to be held on Thursday nights for April but returning to Monday nights in the last week of April into May...
2a. Mixed Intermediate
now 6:30 - 8:00pm so doing harder ones whilst fresh...
Each course aims to add at least 6-10 new ones + revise and consolidate past ones.
T4 2024 Concentrated on radio music, but with harder split floor dances providing a music mix. Many of these were subsequently moved to the Weekly Radio Intermediate course.
T1 2025 > Country music predominantly with harder classic dances favored in between pace variations.
Continuing remains predominantly country music but with some radio, still favoring classics over newer...
Dances done/planned @ MI class lists
2b. Social Pickups
now 8:00 to 9:00pm ..
These started as dances already listed as Radio Homework, being Pickup dances from socials or preparing for social attendances.
The homework was learning to read sheets yourselves to keep up the dances, but finding practice time is not always practical...
Weekly Radio Intermediate classes can only accommodate doing a few of these per week, so these short courses were introduced,
Each course will add more than 12 new ones + revise and consolidate past ones.
Continuing will continue to add as many new ones as can tolerate with regular consolidation and revision of past ones.
